Hollywood writers are going to set a strike date against producer after their negotiating team recommended a walkout in a dispute over royalties at a Thursday night meeting of the union membership. It would be the WGA's first strike in nearly 20 years.
"A strike is all but inevitable", said Steve Skrovan, a screen writer for the Fox show "Til Death" He further sadi, "We've never been more united and we are willing to deal -- and our decision makers are at the table. Their decision makers are not at the table, and that tells you pretty much all you need to know about how the companies are pushing this."
Nick Counter, President of Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, said the news was no surprise. "By the WGA leadership's actions at the bargaining table, we are not surprised by tonight's recommendation," Counter said in a written statement. "We are ready to meet and are prepared to close this contract this weekend."
